THE HYDE CHURCH, COLINDALE The requirement was for additional meeting rooms, as well a general upgrading of the WC accommodation sandwiched between the church and hall. The solution was to demolish the existing WC block and form a new top-lit “Meeting Place” in its place, and to construct a new extension at the side of the church to house a Community Hall as well as Kitchen and WCs serving both areas. A particular design issue was the 1.5m change in level between the front and back of the site. The solution was to link the new and existing spaces by means of a ramped corridor, which is again largely top-lit. This project was completed in October 2007

CHRIST CHURCH BAPTIST CHURCH, KINGS LANGLEY. The existing buildings comprised a 1920s church with a 1960s halls extension. This project involved opening up the entrance area to the church, both visually and physically, a new ramped access to the front doors, and the construction of a link extension between the two buildings, together with fabric repairs. We also designed two new external crosses. The work was completed in 1998.
LEAVESDEN ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH, WATFORD. A major refurbishment of this Victorian and Edwardian church complex was carried out between 1993 and 1996. Work ranged from new kitchen and toilet accommodation through to an upgrading of the sanctuary involving an enlarged platform, new lighting and sound systems, and opening up the entrance porch including glass doors. Robert Thompson was responsible for this project while a partner in a previous practice, Rickaby Thompson Associates.

ST JOHN’S, BILLERICAY The first phase of the upgrading of this 1960s church was completed in 2006. This comprised a new entrance porch, a new heating system, and alterations including the provision of an accessible WC. Future work will include a new Kitchen and a meeting room extension.
BOURNE BAPTIST CHURCH Alterations to a Grade II Listed Baptist church dating from 1835.
